Rebuilding Communities, Building Human Potential and Improving Population Health:
How it all Comes Together
By focusing on social determinants, the public, private and nonprofit sectors have an opportunity to work together in building on the strengths of each sector, overcoming deficits and becoming a whole in better serving communities. In one exciting new area of collaboration, the community development industry is expanding into partnerships that have greater impact on improving health outcomes in low income neighborhoods.
Several interesting collaborations are being developed around the country that focus on improving health outcomes. Although there is still much to be learned in connecting health, nonprofit human service organizations and the community development sectors, this relationship is key-critical in forging a holistic approach to real and permanent change for low-income communities.
UNCA and the Alliance will explore the challenges and opportunities for such cross-sector work. In addition, experts from the Federal Reserve System will examine some national examples of how these partnerships work in producing results that are showing the way to stronger communities and building stronger families.
